Alex Young Wins the StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week - January 7th, 2013

Long Beach State's James Ennis has been chosen as the StatSheet Big West Player of the Week for the week ending January 7th. StatSheet's Big West Freshman of the Week goes to Alex Young. Ennis put up 50% shooting, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game. The Long Beach State senior put these numbers up in a win versus UC-Santa Barbara and an unfortunate loss to Cal Poly.

Ennis led all scoring for the 49ers with 22 points while adding 5 blocked shots in a 79-73 loss to Cal Poly. He followed that up with 18 points and 2 blocked shots in a 77-70 win against UC-Santa Barbara.

This is the first StatSheet Big West Player of the Week honor for James Ennis. The runner-up this week is Long Beach State sophomore Michael Caffey. Honorable mention goes to Cal State Fullerton senior D.J. Seeley. The highest ranking player from UC Irvine was Daman Starring who finished ninth.

StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week: UC Irvine's Alex Young

Alex Young averaged 31 minutes starting both games for UC Irvine. In a 74-71 loss to UC-Santa Barbara, Young tallied 18 points and 4 assists. Following that in a 72-67 loss to Cal Poly, he added 14 points and 5 assists.

This marks the first time this season that Alex Young has won the StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Isaac Fotu from Hawaii. Josh Fox from UC Riverside takes honorable mention. UC Irvine has yet to win StatSheet Big West Player of the Week.
